“Our move to a more ‘themed’ “Summer of…” concept allows us to bring our valued Community Partners closer into the overall program which we feel will translate into a win/win for all,” added Carter. “As we present the “Summer of SuperHeroes” across 11 screenings all over the HRM, the sky’s the limit for audience growth of this incredible community experience.”

About the AFF Outdoor Film Experience

Who can resist a night under the stars with a classic movie and the smell of popcorn wafting through the air? Whether young or old, local or visiting, the AFF Outdoor Film Experience fits the bill for good times.

It’s outdoors. It’s movies. It’s an unforgettable experience!

For the past 14 years, on Friday nights from the end of June to the end of August, the Atlantic Film Festival has delivered an entertaining outdoor film experience throughout Halifax – a larger-than-life inflatable screen showing classic movies under the open sky. With as many as 2000+ movie-goers coming together for each screening – all toting their lawn chairs, blankets, picnics and favourite company – this open-air cinema has a unique festival atmosphere that must be experienced first-hand. Our programmers are constantly dreaming up an engaging theme for the next series. In recent years, our Summer of … theme has been very popular. People are always trying to guess what it will be!

While the theme changes from one year to the next, the objective remains: to bring the community together; to enjoy the film viewing experience in unique outdoor settings; and to set the stage for the upcoming Atlantic Film Festival.

A TRIO PERFORMANCE Atlantic Canada Tour 2015

Announcements by

(Halifax, NS) – Celebrating three decades as Canada’s foremost, groundbreaking independent artist, Loreena McKennitt is set to bring a rare and intimate tour to select venues across the U.S. and Canada this fall, including five dates in Atlantic Canada, October 7-11.

Normally performing with her band in large concert halls around the world, this unique series will feature McKennitt in the trio formation, which garnered her a 2012 Grammy nomination for Troubadours on the Rhine.

Joined by longtime collaborators, Brian Hughes and Caroline Lavelle, this atmospheric evening will feature music and tales inspired by McKennitt’s exotic travels in pursuit of the history of the Celts – from the Sufis in Istanbul, to the Berbers in Morocco, to Delphi in Greece, to the Irish mystical poems of Yeats and classical writers such as Shakespeare and Tennyson – all of which have informed her passionate and sometimes mystical musical expression.

McKennitt’s eclectic Celtic blend of pop, folk and world music has sold over 14 million albums worldwide. Her recordings have achieved gold, platinum and multi-platinum status in 15 countries on four continents. She has twice been nominated for a Grammy Award and has won two Junos, as well as a Billboard International Achievement Award.

McKennitt has performed in some of the world’s most-respected and historic concert venues, from Carnegie Hall to the famous Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain and for dignitaries including Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and numerous heads of state.

In addition to her musical career, McKennitt has been recognized for a number of noteworthy philanthropic initiatives. In 1998, she founded the Cook-Rees Memorial Fund for Water Search and Safety, and she was instrumental in the transformation of a 1929 neo-Gothic school into the Falstaff Family Centre, a charitable organization focused on families and children.

McKennitt is a Member of the Order of Manitoba (2003) and the Order of Canada (2004), and in 2013 she was appointed Knight of the National Order of Arts and Letters of the Republic of France. As a privacy advocate, she won a landmark privacy case in the UK. She has also been awarded four honorary degrees for her non-musical endeavors.

In 2006, McKennitt was appointed as the Royal Canadian Air Force Honorary Colonel of 435 Transport & Rescue Squadron (Winnipeg), and in September 2014 was appointed as the Honorary Colonel of the RCAF.

Roger Hodgson, legendary singer-songwriter, formerly of Supertramp

Announcements/Music by

(Moncton, NB) – Roger Hodgson, legendary singer-songwriter, formerly of Supertramp, returns to Casino New Brunswick’s Event Centre in Moncton to perform on Friday, December 11 at 8 p.m.

Hodgson, one of the most gifted composers and lyricists of our time, co-founded the progressive rock band Supertramp in 1969. Roger was the driving force behind what fans call the “golden years” of the band that made Supertramp a worldwide phenomenon with album sales in excess of 60 million. He wrote, sang, and arranged such enduring rock standards as “Breakfast in America,” “Give a Little Bit,” “Take the Long Way Home,” “The Logical Song,” “Dreamer,” “It’s Raining Again,” “School,” and “Fool’s Overture.”

Whether accompanied by a four-piece band, performing duo, or with an orchestra, Hodgson continues to play all the hits he wrote and later recorded with Supertramp plus other classics of his such as “Child of Vision,” “Hide in Your Shell,” “Sister Moonshine,” and “Even in the Quietest Moments,” and favorites from his solo albums – “Only Because of You,” “Lovers in the Wind,” “Had a Dream,” and “In Jeopardy,” many of which can be found on his current CD release, Classics Live.

Uniting generations, Hodgson transports baby boomers back to their youth while giving younger concertgoers a taste of why his heartfelt songs have endured. In fact, this year marks the 40th Anniversary of Crime of the Century, released in September 1974. In concert, Hodgson performs all the songs that he contributed to the album – “School,” “Hide in Your Shell,” “If Everyone Was Listening,” and the perennial classic “Dreamer,” that became Supertramp’s first international runaway hit, propelling Crime of the Century to the top of the charts.

“Whether it’s the melodic complexity of his songs, the harmonies he weaves with his band, the lyrics that sweep you away or his ability to still command the incredible upper range of his voice, ‘beautiful’ was what kept coming to mind over and over again during his performance. ‘Breathtaking’ might also apply. ‘I want more’ certainly would.”
~ Ted Hansen – Mesa Classic Rock Music Examiner

“All these years I thought I was a Supertramp fan when actually I was and am a Roger Hodgson fan. What a show! WOW is all I can say.”
